Exit Slip for 5/7/10

The overall task for today was to plug our surface area functions into the calculator, graph it, save an image of it, and post it on google docs.

This was necessary because it will give the people we will be presenting our PBATS to a better look at what we did to graph our surface area functions.

Exit Slip for 4/30/10

The overall task of this PBAT is to keep the volume the same while minimizing the surface area of the can. We have to find the height of the can using a different radius but keeping the volume the same.

Exit Slip for 4/27/10

the important concept of today's lesson was how to find the height with different radius but keeping the volume the same.

i used division and it was helpful because it helped me find my heights and it made it easier cause i already had a volume.

Exit Slip for 4/23/10

I helped my table with volume and SA by reminding them what we did yesterday.

I was able to find my volume and surface area.

I learned how to find SA and volume and how to plug in my measurements.

I can use these skills outside of school if i was trying to build something i guess.

I have no further questions on this topic.

Exit Slip- Comparing Functions

  • The curves arent touching
  • The blue curve is smaller than the red curve
  • The blue curve is positive
  • The red curve is negative

Exit Slip

We compare and contrast the functions by making a chart and adding catergories to better determine the differences

Progress Update 2

Fed Ex Express: 130 in.
UPS: 165 in.

My first chart was for Fed Ex Express. My box design was a square face in which w=h. How i generalized it was when my total was 130 my width and height was x. To find the length i would have to find girth first because total minus the girth equals the length. Since my box design is a square face all the sides had to be equal. So i founded that the girth was 4x. So my length is (130-4x). Now i had to find the volume expression. My volume expression is =(130-4x)(x)(x) because length times width times height equals the volume.

My second chart was for UPS. My box design for that was also a square face so i had to repeat the same steps i used for the first chart to generalize. I started off with x. My total was 165. My girth was also 4x. The width and height would be x because its equal to whatever number i used. I found that my length was (165-4x). My volume expression is =(165-4x)(x)(x).

In conclusion i founded that as the number me and my teammates used gets smaller the maximum and minimum volume increases.

progress update on fed ex & ups box project

so far all i have done is create my tables and generalize. i havent started my graphs yet. this project was kind of hard for me in the begining until wan helped me. it took a while for wan to get to my table and explain to me what i had to do lol

Team Ruby Bridges

Ruby Bridges played a very important part in the Civil Rights Movement. She helped end segregation in schools. She was the first black student at her all-white elementary school which was called William Frantz School. Even though the white students and parents were againgst Ruby going to school with them, Ruby's mother was determined to have her go there to get a better education than she did.

"I now know that experience comes to us for a purpose, and if we follow the guidance of the spirit within us, we will probably find that the purpose is a good one."-Ruby Bridges (Through My Eyes)
